Hello and Sveiks!

My name is Sandi and I call my creative business SaulesSister.
Saule (sow-leh) is the Latvian word for Sun, and a hint of my Latvian heritage.
So, I guess I am SunSister!
Throughout my life, I have always had a regular creative practice of drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage, using more traditional mediums.
About 10 years ago, I began using found and foraged botanical bits — flowers, leaves, sticks, and seeds — as a medium to create art.
I have come to enjoy the meditative act of seeking and gathering materials from nature, curating, then arranging them into a chosen design.
Each finished artwork is then released, usually swept away into the garden compost, saved only in a photograph.

Using intuition as my tour guide, I tell visual stories of things that I am curious about in this big, beautiful, messy world of ours — the wonder of a leaf shape, the changing of the seasons, color, current events, history and cultures of the world, or my own personal heritage.
I am often stunned by the deeper meaning that may reveal itself to me after I have completed an arrangement — the symbolism of the plants I have used, the meaning of the colors, shape or design I have chosen, or the message from the animal spirit I have chosen to represent.
